justabunchahikers is all about a small group of hikers in Port Alberni, BC Canada. The group is informal, often not deciding where to go until we meet on the day of the hike. There is such a wide selection of hikes locally that we don't often repeat a trip. Sometimes a group member has a special new trail to show others or has discovered something exciting. Other times we go on exploratory hikes just to see a new area.
The group is diverse with some members very fit and others just managing to survive the longer, tougher hikes. We go as a group and ensure the slower members are always accompanied. Radios are used to keep intouch when the leaders and others are out of sight. The composition of the group for each hike is varied as we all have other interests as well as hiking. Newcomers or old friends often join us for a particular hike and it is always a friendly group. Saturday hikes always include a stop for lunch.
Today the group consists of a writer, photographer and map maker plus a few others who just like to hike. Our goal is to share our interest in hiking around Port Alberni with others who may enjoy a few hours tramping aound the forests.
If you are interested in joing up with us, we meet every second Saturday mornings at 10 in the parking lot of the Atheletic Hall. Wednesday hikes, in the summer, meet at 6:00 at Coombs Country Candy unless it is announced on the Next Hike information item that we will be meeting elsewhere. As the days get shorter the evening hikes will meet earlier so the trip can be completed in daylight!
