We seem to be well into summer at this time and the weather is hot and dry. With this in mind the group decided that up was cooler and on July 10th we did the CPR Loop. It is easier than doing the CPR trail from Hwy 4 since the uphill portion is considerably shorter and the end result is having lunch at the outlook with it's spectacular views. It is quite a popular spot and we met three other groups at the top and a few others on the way.
Bill, our semi-official guide, talked to some younger hikers and heard that they had been up to the top of Mt. Cokely and the trail was good with little snow. At lunch we decided that the next hike would be up from our parking spot and plan on reaching the summit of Mt Cokely.
On July 24 a good sized group set off, up. For those who don't know the area there was a ski lodge on Mt Cokely a few years ago. It, and the ski lifts, no longer exist but the ski runs make excellent hiking trails up the mountain. Our group started up, and up and up. A few stops were made to catch out breath and to take in the wonderful views.
Contrary to the comments from the younger hikers, the trail was a bit much for some of our group and a few opted to have lunch without reaching the summit. Most of the group continued up through the snow, water and heather reaching the very top!
The next hike is undecided at this time but the time and location will be posted shortly.
